Here's the classic Challenge Grifo cyclocross tread pattern in a brand new, 38mm wide version. Get more grip, comfort, and control in cyclocross races where the 33mm tire width rules are not enforced!

The Grifo 38mm uses the new HTLR (handmade, tubeless-ready) casing, a top-level high-end tire for cyclocross racers who prefer to race on tubeless instead of tubulars.

Slowtwitch.com says: "...the tire also feels more like a tubular when really ripping a corner because the sidewalls are supple. The result is a tire that affords more margin of error in turns."

All-around, all-conditions use tread

The Grifo Pro HTLR is ideal for riders who only have a single race wheelset, because the all-conditions tread works in wet or dry, rocks, roots, and grass. If you have to pick one single tire to run all season, Grifo is it. The center section offers fast-rolling knobs that offer excellent traction for pedaling and braking.

PPS Puncture Protection Strip

The Grifo HTLR features a special fabric between the tire casing and tread, reducing the risk of punctures and preventing race-ending flat tires.

Meets ISO, ETRTO standards, plus hookless compatible

The HTLR line from Challenge meets the new ETRTO and ISO tubeless standards, and is also hookless compatible.

Challenge tubeless-ready tires can be mounted with or without inner tubes. When used tubeless, a liquid tire sealant is needed (Challenge's own SMART tubeless sealant recommended, but others can be used as well.) Challenge tires should not be mounted on wheels that don't meet ISO or ETRTO standards.

  • Folding Aramid bead
  • Black tread with tan sidewalls for that classic "look"
  • 300 TPI Superpoly casing

Maximum tire width rules in cyclocross races

Most Elite cyclocross races (think professional-level Superprestige, World Cup; and some National Championships) impose a tire width limit of 33mm, but most local race series held at the amateur level have no such limits, allowing riders to ride tires like the 38mm Grifo.
